Separator films
Separator films are mostly made of plastic and inserted between electrodes in order to avoid internal short circuits in cells. The films are perforated to allow ions to penetrate. Advanced and smart material combinations offer additional advantages in this area. For example, it is possible to increase the thermal stability and avoid shrinkage by using inorganic (carbon-free) separator films (e.g., ceramic-coated films).
VMA-Getzmann offers DISPERMAT® machines for stirring and dispersion in order to reach submicron particles, which are required in the production of ceramic suspensions for coating systems.
